Requirements
- iPhone with iOS 26.1 or later. It also runs on iPad, using the phone layout.
- An active Apple Music subscription
- An internet connection
- For CarPlay: a car with CarPlay, and tuvalindë already set up on the phone
Is tuvalindë free?
Yes. It's free and it has no ads. There are no in-app purchases, and it has no subscription of its own. Only Apple Music required. This app is made for music lovers, by a music lover.
Do I need to create an account?
No. You never sign up for anything. The only thing setup asks for is access to Apple Music.
How do I set it up?
Open the app and tap Get Started. Grant Apple Music access, then pick five to ten artists you like. The suggestions come from your own listening where possible, and you can search for any artist by name. Tap Let's Go, then press JUMP IN.
Why does it ask for Apple Music access?
To play music and learn your listening preferences. During setup it reads your recently played songs and your library so it has a head start. It only reads. It never adds to your library or changes your playlists.
Why does it ask for the microphone and Speech Recognition?
Those are for Voice Search in CarPlay. The car screen can't show the permission prompt, so the phone asks the first time you reach the JUMP IN screen. Both are optional. If you never use Voice Search, you can decline.
How long before it gets good?
It starts with the artists you picked and what you already play in Apple Music, then keeps learning from what you finish and what you skip. For the first week, Settings shows "Learning Mode Active". Fitting the time of day needs some listening history first. While it's new to you, searching for songs you love and starting from them helps.
Does it run on iPad, Mac or Apple Watch?
It runs on iPad using the phone layout. There is no Mac or Apple Watch version.
How do you say tuvalindë?
too-vah-LIN-deh.
How does Jump In pick what to play?
From what it has learned about you. Once it has heard enough of your listening, it also fits the time of day and whether it's a weekday or the weekend. It tries not to start you in the same place twice. The rest we keep quiet.
What is the "Because you like" line?
For the first few songs after a Jump In or a vibe switch, a small line above the artwork can name the song or artist that inspired the pick. Tap it and the app asks whether to play that one. Tap Play and a fresh session starts from it. It's on the phone only, and it won't show every time.
What happens when I skip a song?
The next pick starts right away and the app learns from the skip. A skip means not right now. No song is ever permanently banned, and if you later choose that song yourself, the earlier skip is forgiven.
What does "Switch the vibe?" do?
Tap the wand on Now Playing, then Switch. The current run ends and a new one starts somewhere clearly different, still drawn from your own taste. Switch again and it keeps moving on. Sometimes the card reads "Try something new?" instead. The app never shows this prompt on its own.
Does it play live versions or remixes?
Its own picks favor the original studio recording over live, karaoke and sped-up versions. If you want a live album or a remix, open it in Search and play it yourself.
Is there a queue, shuffle or a like button?
No. You don't manage a queue, and the app never shuffles. It learns from how you listen, so there is nothing to rate.
How do I get back to the JUMP IN screen?
JUMP IN is the screen you see when nothing is loaded. Once music is loaded, the phone stays on Now Playing. To change direction mid-session, use the wand or Search.
Can I play a specific song?
Yes. Tap the magnifying glass on the JUMP IN screen or on Now Playing and search for songs, artists or albums. Tap a song and it plays first, then the music carries on from there. Before you type, Search shows your Recently Played songs.
Can I play an artist?
Open the artist from Search. You'll see their Top Songs and their Albums, oldest first. There's no play-artist button, so tap one of the songs or open an album to start.
Can I play a whole album?
Yes. Open an album and tap a track. You're offered Play Entire Album, Play This Track and, for tracks in the middle, Play Album From Here. An album plays in track order with nothing mixed in. When it ends, the music carries on from the last track.
How do I see the album a song came from?
On Now Playing, tap the small album button on the corner of the artwork. The full track list opens. Tap the play button beside any track to start from that song.
Can I browse my playlists or library?
No. tuvalindë doesn't show your Apple Music playlists or library, and it never changes them.
Does tuvalindë have lyrics?
Yes, on the phone. Tap the lyrics button on Now Playing. Where synced lyrics are available, the current line lights up and the view scrolls with the song. Lyrics aren't available for every song, and they don't come from Apple Music, so coverage can differ from what you see there. If none are found you'll see "No lyrics available".
How do I set up CarPlay?
Set up the phone first. Grant Apple Music access and pick your artists. Then connect to CarPlay and open tuvalindë on the car screen. If the phone isn't set up, the car tells you to open tuvalindë on your phone.
What can I do from the car?
The home screen has four tiles: Jump In, Top Listens, Recently Played and Voice Search. From those you can reach songs, artists, albums and track lists, and play an entire album or one track. The wand on the car's Now Playing screen lets you Switch the vibe. There are no settings and no typed search in the car.
What are Top Listens and Recently Played?
Top Listens is the music you've finished most in tuvalindë. Recently Played comes from your Apple Music history, so it includes songs you played outside the app.
Voice Search isn't working. What should I check?
Voice Search needs Microphone and Speech Recognition permission, and both can only be granted on the phone. Check both in your iPhone's Settings for tuvalindë. It also needs a data connection. Then tap Voice Search and say an artist, a song or an album.
I tapped Jump In in the car and it showed what was already playing.
That's expected. If music is already playing, the car shows it instead of starting over. Phone and car share one session.
Where are Settings and Listening DNA?
Start any music, then tap the gear at the top right of Now Playing. Listening DNA is under Your Music. The JUMP IN screen has no settings button.
What is Listening DNA?
A portrait of how you listen, built from the songs you finish. It opens with a three-word headline about you and a helix of your last 30 days, then Your Universe, Inner Circle, On Repeat, Rhythm and more. Until you've listened enough it reads "Your DNA is forming". It's on the phone only and it's for looking. Nothing plays from it and there is no share button.
What does Allow Explicit do?
It's a switch under Playback in Settings, on by default. With it on, the app prefers the uncensored version of a song when Apple Music has one. Turn it off and explicit tracks are blocked everywhere, including inside albums and in CarPlay. They still appear in lists, grayed out.
What does Clear All Data erase?
Your listening history, your taste profile, your Listening DNA and everything else the app has learned about you. The music stops and you go back through first-run setup. It can't be undone. It doesn't touch your Apple Music library or account, and it leaves your Allow Explicit choice as it was.
Where is my data kept?
Your listening history and taste profile are kept on your phone. There are no ads, no trackers and no analytics SDKs. There's no account and nothing syncs between devices. The Privacy Policy has the full detail.
I see "Apple Music Required".
The app couldn't confirm an active Apple Music subscription. Tap Open Apple Music to check your account, then come back and tap Check Again. The app also checks on its own when you return, so there's no need to relaunch. Check your internet connection too.
I see "Music Access Required".
Apple Music access was denied. Tap Grant Access, or allow Apple Music for tuvalindë in your iPhone's Settings.
I see "Playback trouble" and "Tap to retry".
Playback has failed more than once, often because of a weak connection. Tap the message to retry. It goes away when playback recovers. In CarPlay the same notice offers Retry and Cancel.
I pressed JUMP IN and nothing played.
If the button stops spinning and you're still on the home screen, a song couldn't be started. Check your connection and press it again.
I got an "Unable to Play" alert.
The song you chose couldn't be started. Tap OK and try it again. If Allow Explicit is off, explicit tracks can't be played.
Recommendations feel off.
Keep listening the way you normally would. Finish what you like and skip what you don't. If a run is wrong, tap the wand, or search for a song you love and start from there. If it still feels wrong after a week or so, write to us.
Something else is wrong.
Make sure you have the latest version from the App Store and that iOS is up to date. If it keeps happening, email support@tuvalinde.com and tell us which iPhone you have, its iOS version and the app version shown under About in Settings.
